Singamoto Track Day - 17 June 2019

It seems that with every month, a new organiser springs up with a new track day, new race, and even new circuits. With regular fixtures like the KF1 karting circuits and Kallang Leisure Carpark being used to exhaustion, The organisers of this new track session decided to look elsewhere, choosing Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal carpark as their ideal track destination.

Probably the first of its kind in Singapore, this event was not a race per se, but rather a normal track day where riders of various classes (Underbone, Supermoto, Naked and even an Aerox class) can take part and fine-tune their skills and understanding of their machines.

Similar layout, different scenery?

Pre-event setup will always drag until the final hour.

The event organisers, Singamoto SG, went one step further to organise a track session workshop for their riders a couple of days before the track session. Held at Hodaka Motoworld Kaki Bukit, participants were in for a treat as local racer Hasroy led the workshop, providing valuable tips and guides to those interested in levelling up their riding game.

With the support of various sponsors such as Motoworld, Speedzone, Liqui Moly, Bear's Garage and Monster Energy (to name a select few, there's really way too many to list!), the event was shaping up to be an exciting affair.

With booths from sponsors promoting exclusive merchandise, the sounds of roaring engines and of course, the beautiful Monster girls providing riders and spectators alike with much-needed refreshments, it was an otherwise uneventful day, save for the occasional crash or two.

Bit of fan service for the boys

Here's an on-board video of a KTM390 Duke. Sorry, no Iron Horse Members took part in this track day. :(

A sponsor of the Singamoto track event and close friend Bear Garage took part in this trackday. I must say that they are super supportive of local events in Singapore. Check them out in action below:

And one really cool event that went down during the track session was when Hasroy took to the tarmac while using an UClear Motion tagged to his helmet, all the while speaking to trackside spectators wearing special headsets connected to Hasroy's helmet.

This could potentially pave the way for some very cool dialogue if they allowed such headsets to be used during races like MSF or MSBK. Imagine the rider giving real-time feedback to the paddock. It would be revolutionary.

It's refreshing to finally see a trackday session being held in space-constrained Singapore, where support for the motorsports community is dismal at best. My only wish is for larger areas to be opened up, so that larger capacity bikes in the 1000cc and above category can get the chance to stretch their legs.

Who knows? Maybe there can even be a Singapore GP? Street circuits always have a special appeal to them, after all.
